The critical mass now meets at the Historical Market Square which is located at 301 Milam, in the middle of Downtown Houston.  For years we’ve met at Tranquility Park but feel that it’s time for a change and hope that Market Square proves to be a great new spot.

The park has been completely renovated with the addition of Niko Niko’s, a staple Houston greek eatery, a dog run, and plenty of outdoor seating and areas to chill.  The park also comes well lit, and is surrounded by many other restaurants and places to grab a cold drink or something quick to eat.

The meeting times are still the same.  Gather at the park between 6:30 and 7pm, and be prepared to take off and ride around 7:15.  April’s Ride will end at Liberty Station bar on Washington Ave, where we will be joining a birthday celebration for one our regular riders.  See you all there.

The 2nd Annual SleyRide takes place this Saturday, Dec 17th.  The Ride benefits the Houston Area Women’s Center.  Registration starts at 6pm at Antidote Coffee at 729 Studemont in the Heights.  Ride Starts at 7:15.

The ride is a casual mass ride that will take us through the Heights, through a few neighborhoods that are heavy with Christmas lights, we’ll make a stop at Happy Fatz Eatery on White Oak half way through to get hooked up with drinks and treats, and then make our way through town again before stopping at HTown Bar & Grill, who is hosting our after party.

Tonight’s party is hosted by Fiksd Apparel and will feature two food trucks, Zilla street eats, and Hit N Run. Both have amazing food so come hungry. The party is BYOB, we’ll have a slip n slide, couple of pinatas, and DJ Neon on hand bringing the music. She’s working off tips so hook her up!!

The ride is very chill and relaxed.  Anyone joining us is asked to enjoy themselves, have fun, and be courteous to vehicles on the road.  With a mass as large as us, we take over any street that we’re on and it can some times piss off a few drivers.  As long as they don’t attack or try to run us over, please be courteous and enjoy the ride.

This month there are a couple of events going on that we’ll know about by the time Friday comes.  We’ll have more details when we meet at Tranquility.  See everyone on Friday.  All bikes are welcome.  Helmets are optional.  Bring a friend.

Each critical mass ride is different and spontaneous.  However the trend has been to find a final location to stop at that can cater to the mass and that everyone can either eat or drink at.  For the March ride, Boheme Cafe/Bar has offered to throw the Mass a huge party!

They’re still working out the details but this party promises to come with lots of free beer for the first 500 riders, drink specials, food, music by DJ Melodic, and space for any artists and bike industry vendors that would like to showcase their work or merchandise.

We’ll provide more info before the ride.

The critical mass will be making a stop at this party halfway through the ride.

The SleyRide is a group bicycle ride that will benefit two needy families in Houston for Christmas. With the help of The Byke Project, IAMCHANGE.org, FIKSD Apparel, and Fox Hollow Gastro Lounge, we will work to raise funds to make these familie’s lives a little easier this year. This event is a benefit in conjunction with a mass bicycle ride. The ride is open to anyone with a bicycle and all we ask is that those who can afford to contribute do so before or on the day of the event. One of the rides that people look forward to the most is the one that takes place in October because of Halloween.  Every year, people take advantage of the “holiday” and come dressed up in some of the craziest costumes.  Well, this year we’re working to get everyone to come as their favorite Superhero or as one of their own creations.

Our goal is to take over the streets of Houston as a huge superhero posse and make a couple of stops at some organized parties specifically catered to the mass ride.  We will have a planned route through the city as usual, and will end the night at Liberty Station Bar at 2101 Washington Ave.  This will be the official Critical Mass after party and will include music by DJ Ill set, costume contests and drink specials for all mass riders.  Note:  arm bands will be sold to all riders for $2.00 and will be your ticket for drink specials all night.  Arm bands will be available Friday before the ride and at Liberty Station.

Tonight’s ride is going to be crazy.  From downtown we’ll be riding into the 3rd ward as we make our way to Eastwood park where some antics will go down in the public skatepark.  This will serve as a small break before we head into the Heights and make our regular stop at the corner store near WhiteOak park near I-10.  From there we will go deep into the heights and make our way to a big house party in Shady Acres, home of Fiksd apparel.  Fusion Taco truck will be on hand for food, we’ll have a huge slip n slide in the back yard and music.  Everyone bring your own drinks.  A small corner store is right down the street at 23rd and Ella for those that need to reload.  See you all tonight!
